Dam Night Run 5k- The practice run

You may or may not know that I used to do C25K and I was running up to 3 miles in a whack there for a while. I stopped doing C25K because it was never my goal to run 3 miles on the daily, and I went at such a slow speed, that it felt like it was consuming a lot of my day (this was during school).

Props to the peeps who stick with it, run every day, or run length on the regular... but running isn't just like my thing. I'd rather be up in the gym or at this point in my life, bootcamping.

SO, that said, I do still try to incorporate running into my weekly activities, because it's one of those "if you don't use it, you'll lose it" typed deals, and it does seem to help me with my weight loss.

We do some running in Bootcamp, and my mom and I try to run 3 miles (not consecutively) 3x/week, and I'm over the moon about that running setup. It fits me perfect right now in the summer, and I like getting in a run- makes me feel Boss.

Anyway, a few of the ladies at Bootcamp have signed on to do a 5k this weekend, myself included. 4 of us went to the run location and decided to do a test-run of the run lol. By a few of us... I mean everyone but me was probably just super on board with that. I was a little nervous about trying to bust out a 5K.... Did I really want to know where I was at, physically, in conjunction with race performance... not really. Until we actually did the thing.

We started up running and stayed a steady pace from the beginning. I have a bit of the "out of the gate" mentality, where I want to go hard and fast at the beginning, only to sizzle out halfway.

Having Mom and my friend there though, we all tried to do the slow and steady pace. It worked out really great. We ran the first 1.25m solid before we stopped and did a quick walk. Mom never stopped at all, which was really great! My friend and I stopped for probably .... .30m in total. And we would catch back up, so really I didn't feel too bad about my small episodes of 1-3 minutes of walking.

On my Map My Run, I actually ended up showing that I did 3.35 miles in right under 40 minutes for a pace of 12min/mile! I was so excited.

You may be asking yourself, "Why 3.35?? Doesn't she know that a 5k is 3.1?". And I appreciate that lol. What happened was 1/2 mile into the race, I realized that I had left my keys (to my car at the finish line) in my moms car, which was at the top of the hill. We turned back around and went a little ways before my mom remembered that I had a spare on the car. It was such relief lol. So then we turned around and kept trucking onwards.

I'm glad we did the pre- race, and I'm hoping that Saturday night's race is just as easy! It's the days after that'll get ya!

Sore, but confident.

  1. Way to go! I've been slowly making my way through C25K and can now run about a 13 min mile without stopping but struggle with time and distance after that. I'm totally impressed by you! You got this!
